For centuries philosophers and scientists have tried to figure out the relationship between the mind and the body. Golfers simply know that the mind & body are a unity. Every decision on the golf course requires a feast of mental deliberation as well as a total body workout. A careless intellectual decision on the golf course can make the difference between a birdie and a bogey. An incorrect movement of the waist, hips, legs, hands, or head can mean a terrible shot even for Albert Einstein himself.

He also received the HONORARY DOCTOR OF HUMANE LETTERS DEGREE from Georgetown as well as The HONORARY DOCTOR OF HUMANE LETTERS DEGREE from El Colegio Universitario de Mayaguez
(Puerto Rico)

In 1995 Chi Chi (as the FIRST Hispanic in the HISTORY OF THE UNITED STATES)
served as the Grand Marshal for the 106th Tournament of the Roses Parade held in Pasadena, California.

In September 1979, Speaker of the House Tip O'Neill, addressing Congress on the Panama Canal question, related a memorable Pro-Am conversation he had with Chi Chi six years earlier. At that time, Chi Chi had admittedly advised the United States to return the Panama Canal, adding that anything else would smack of American Imperialism. He had further warned that Panama could balloon into another Cuba if not handled with care. O'Neill paid heed and presented to Congress. Chi Chi scored well on Capitol Hill.

In my final words there can only be one Chi Chi. But now he is available for all of us in Puerto Rico and Worldwide. I want the young golfers of the World to know that if we follow in his footsteps, we are all heading in the right direction as human beings and golfers.
Thus this is my gift to Puerto Rico and the World.
